Spice up a boring veggie side dish of Green Beans by adding bacon and nuts

Olive oil
125g streaky bacon – cut across into 1cm lengths
50g slivered almonds
350g fine green beans, stems trimmed off
1 t (5ml) Ina Paarman’s Vegetable Spice

How to
Warm 2 t (10ml) olive oil in a small frying pan, add the bacon pieces and stir-fry until crisp. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on absorbent paper.

Add the almonds to the fat in the pan and stir-fry gently until golden. Drain on absorbent paper.

Can be done in advance.

Toss the beans with 2 t (10ml) olive oil. Steam on top of the stove in a vegetable steaming basket or in the microwave in a micro-steamer on high for 6 minutes.

Remove from the heat and add Vegetable Spice. Top the beans with the bacon and almonds before serving.
