A warm and comforting South African breakfast that tastes just like home

Ingredients

125ml Mealie meal

375 ml water

250 ml milk

¼ tsp of salt

15g butter

How to:

Place the mealie meal, salt and water into a pot and allow the water to slowly come to simmer.

Stir occasionally to ensure that the mixture doesn’t clump.

Increase the heat after 10 minutes.

When the mixture begins to simmer stir continuously and add the butter and milk.

Remove the pot from the stove top and dish the porridge into bowls.

Add sugar or honey to sweeten.

Chef’s tip: If you like your porridge thinner, add more milk when cooking
