Doctors on Thursday were struggling to save the eyesight of a former Miss Italy finalist after an ex-boyfriend threw acid in her face, Italian news agency ANSA reported …
“I’m alive, don’t worry, I’ll make it,” 28-year-old Gessica Notaro was quoted as saying from her hospital bed in Cesena’s Bufalini Hospital burns unit.
The former beauty queen identified ex-live-in boyfriend Jorge Edson Tavares, 29, as her attacker, saying he confronted her at the entrance to her apartment complex in the seaside town of Rimini on Tuesday night.
She had reported Tavares to police for stalking after breaking off their two-year relationship in August 2016.
Tavares was taken into custody on Wednesday and protested his innocence Thursday, claiming he was with another woman at the time of the incident, ANSA reported.
Notaro won the Miss Romagna regional beauty pageant in 2007. She has been an animal trainer at the Rimini Acquarium since 2014, and worked as a dancer and TV presenter before that, according to her Facebook profile.
