Bangkok – a city known by many names including ‘The City of Angels’, and ‘Venice of the East’
It is a vibrant, bustling city, a vast, sprawling metropolis, home to modern steel skyscrapers and traditional tiled temples, standing side by side. It is a city of colourful tuk-tuks, golden spires and delicious street food. It has an infectious energy that draws one in. There is so much to do here that I’d recommend staying for at least a week, from exploring the historic and cultural attractions to indulging in budget retail therapy at the many markets.
Where you stay in Bangkok has a huge impact on your experience there. And after all this activity in Bangkok’s tropical heat, it helps to have a peaceful sanctuary to which to retreat and rejuvenate at the end of a long day … and that is exactly what Somerset Park Suanplu was.
Somerset Park Suanplu, Bangkok is a serviced residence in the very heart of the metropolis. It lies in a quiet tree-lined street, populated by apartments and international embassies. A complimentary tuk-tuk service will take guests from the residence to the nearest Skytrain station, just ten minutes away. The residence is also within walking distance of the renowned shopping and eating areas on Sukhomvit and Silom roads.
There are 235 residences consisting of one-, two- and three-bedroomed options, as well as penthouses, to suit different requirements. The apartments are spacious and modern. Our suite had two comfortable bedrooms, two bathrooms, a lounge area with a workstation, a dining area and a fully-equipped kitchenette. Full-length glass sliding doors led onto a balcony with expansive views of Bangkok.
Best of all, we had a washing machine and a tumble dryer – which saved us the trouble of having to visit a laundromat. Other room amenities included a television connected to a CD and DVD player, an iron and ironing board, and the workstation. Wi-Fi connectivity and complimentary housekeeping services were also available.
Somerset guests have access to the many facilities in the building, which include a beautiful swimming pool, a gymnasium, tennis courts, a small library, an indoor playroom for the children and an on-site day spa. The tour desk will help arrange transport and tours. A mini-market caters for guests who want to cook their own food and kids with cravings for candy and chips.
There are beautiful gardens on the ground level where one can relax while waiting for a taxi or after coming back from a walk. The gardens have serene water features, seating areas and an outdoor playground for the kids.
We enjoyed a daily buffet breakfast at the restaurant
There was a choice of Thai and international dishes. Breakfast started at 6 am so we could eat before leaving on our early morning tours.
This was the perfect solution for a family vacation in Bangkok. It is also suitable for business travelers and couples. The size of the apartment and the furnishings make it perfect for extended stays too and there are special rates for long-term stays.
Somerset Park Suanplu is one of a premier collection of The Ascott Limited’s serviced residences in 100 cities around the world. I will definitely consider them when travelling to Bangkok again or to any of their other locations.
