Simplify your weight-loss journey

It may seem like the only way to lose weight is by spending countless hours in the gym and surviving on dry Provitas and tuna. This isn’t the be all and end all of weight loss though; there are simple ways to start your weight loss plan that you can implement every day.

Make lists

I will keep going back to how effective it is to make lists and document your journey. Not only does it keep you accountable for your actions, but it gives you a very tangible report of your progress, where your weaknesses lie and where your strengths are.

Document everything that you eat and drink daily, as well as what activities you are doing and how you feel after each day. This will give you insight into your programme, how effective it is and where you can make changes.

Go online

Numerous studies have shown that joining online weight-loss groups or challenges help you keep weight off.

When you sign up for a challenge online, you’re joining hundreds of people who share the same goals. You will share your progress, hiccups that you face with people who will be able to sympathise, offer support and solutions to your weight-loss woes. Plus, it’s always lovely to make new friends!

Have a mantra

Ever heard of a self-fulfilling prophecy? I know how strange this may sound, but if you keep focusing on the things that you struggle with and can’t do, you’ll convince yourself that it is impossible. So, if you convince yourself that giving up smoking is impossible to do, it will be.

When you change the way you think about weight loss and your capabilities, you’ll be amazed at what you can achieve. So, instead of the negatives, think positive thoughts about losing weight, being strong and being capable of amazing things. When you repeat these phrases, they will become true for you.

Stick to water

I’ll be the first to confess that I love my morning coffee a little too much. In fact, I don’t count the first cup of coffee at all, but rather see it as a starter to get me going. After breakfast, I try to stick to drinking at least three litres of water throughout the day. When you switch your usual coffee or tea break for water instead, you do wonders for your weight-loss plan.
