The death of South African racer, Gugu Zulu, has hit the nation hard. The driver and TV personality died while attempting to climb Mount Kilimanjaro for Nelson Mandela Day, after he experienced breathing difficulties that proved to be fatal.
Following the announcement of his death, many celebrities have taken to social media to share their condolences as well as tributes to the late Gugu Zulu.
Amongst these celebrities is Kaya FM’s Bob Mabena. The radio DJ took to Twitter to speak about his own experience with high-altitude sickness
Mabena revealed that he fell ill after spending some time in the Swiss Alps.

He told us a little more about exactly what went down:
“You get to a stage where you don’t have the strength to actually breathe. Walking a mere two steps feels like a steep climb. It can be fatal and had I spent a few more minutes in that altitude I definitely wouldn’t be here posting this message.”
