You have read the sleep training books, adjusted their diets to include protein and low GI foods, prepared long relaxing lavender baths and given plenty of massages …
You have even resorted to exhausting them before bed in the hope that they will sleep through the night. However your baby (or toddler!) is still not sleeping through the night.
In your search for the perfect sleep solution you might have realised that sleep is a developmental phase and like every other stage in a baby’s life, he will eventually sleep through. Babies have needs, as do adults. If you have made sure that he is not hungry, cold, uncomfortable or in pain, maybe he is waking up because he misses you and just wants to feel the warmth of your presence.
While you might have accepted this fact, your body might not be so accepting. When mornings, hungry kids, school and work won’t wait for you, getting out of bed feeling like you have been clobbered from all sides can be an accomplishment all on its own.
Here are a few tips to ease your start to the morning …
Don’t reach for the coffee
Drinking a warm glass of water with half a freshly squeezed lemon has many benefits. Other than the health benefits associated with this, lemon is a natural energy booster, even more so when combined with honey. It will leave you feeling energised and refreshed while working on your body to flush out toxins.
An apple a day does more than keep the doctor away
Apples contain natural fructose, which is a natural sugar. This helps to wake the body up naturally as it moves slowly through the body. Once it is in your system, it will keep you awake.
Unlike caffeine there is no crash which follows, making it far more effective than coffee.
Keep it natural
Natural fragrances such as orange essential oil, peppermint, lemon, eucalyptus, rosemary and grapefruit are know to help with fatigue and the effects.
Try burning some in an oil burner or spritz some perfume, which contains these undertones on you. Smell is a powerful sense that can uplift you.
Hide tired eyes and skin
Invest in a good eye cream and concealer. This will soothe your tired eyes and hide dark circles, making eyes look less weary.
A tinted moisturiser is an essential item. It works miracles; giving your skin the boost it needs and also adds a radiant look.
So now that you have been refreshed, you will be ready to conquer the world. Who needs sleep?
