The first thing you’ll notice about South Beach is its amazing location
Besides being across the road from the chic Camps Bay beachfront, a mere 50 metres from the white sands, it’s also within walking distance of many popular restaurants, bars and just up the road from the Theatre on the Bay.
If you need to go a little further, you can jump on one of South Beach’s Schwinn bicycles – available free to guests – and take a scenic cycle to beautiful Llandudno, or be more adventurous and head towards vibrant Sea Point.
Each stylish apartment has a lovely view, and we were lucky enough to get an apartment on the third floor overlooking the pool, with a 180-degree view of the turquoise bay and Lion’s Head from the balcony.
We enjoyed free undercover parking adjacent to the reception, laundry and a full gym facility, where we were warmly greeted by Michelle. She was friendly and courteous, taking us from the tastefully-decorated, minimalist, seaside palette hotel interiors to the equally stylish, spacious and modern apartment, complete with five-star hotel finishes.
Instant holiday ‘mood’
With a bright, serene and airy feel, and lots of natural light streaming in and plenty of mood-setting downlights, the apartment instantly puts you into a holiday mood with several entertainment areas: the lounge, a reading nook and balcony.
While it boasts luxury finishes befitting a five-star hotel, this is a self-catering apartment with majestic Camps Bay views. From the sleek kitchen, which includes everything you are used to at home – that is if you own a Nespresso machine! – the apartment opens onto the open-plan lounge and bedroom.
The lounge includes designer furniture and an LCD screen, a sound bar and wireless Sennheiser headphones if you don’t want to disturb others while watching movies, TV or sport on their bouquet of TV and movie channels.
King-sized comfort and luxury
The superbly comfortable king-size bed, complete with its royal mattress and luxurious cotton linen, overlooks the lounge if you feel like watching TV from across the room or getting into a good book under one of the many reading lamps.
The bathroom includes a wonderfully oversized bath tub, a rain shower head and heated towel rack, with enough space to make you quite comfortable if you choose to have an extended bubble bath. The fine linen, gowns and fluffy towels make everything that much more comfortable.
For your convenience, there is a minibar, and some snacks are on offer
South Beach stocked the fridge with milk, eggs, cheese, yoghurt, fruit salad and cold meats for our breakfast, which we enjoyed on the balcony with croissants and coffee. The kitchen is furnished with everything you’ll need for self-catering, from cutlery to cookware.
A smart work desk makes it easy to break out the laptop or shift into business mode should you need to. There’s ample cupboard space for longer stays, which are made all the more tempting by the air conditioning and underfloor heating that give you options in summer and winter.
Perfect blend of comfort and style
South Beach is a perfect blend of comfort and style, which is made all the more convenient by its position on the beachfront. Much like Goldilocks, you’ll find everything is just right, making it luxurious yet under your control. The friendly staff were attentive, generous, flexible and eager to please, respecting our privacy, but remaining available around the clock whenever we needed them.
It’s really the little things that make all the difference to one’s stay
For instance, the picnic cooler-bag for you to enjoy sundowners on the beach, a Pilates mat, sunscreen at the reception desk, a fresh fruit bowl and even a complementary music CD to take home to remember your stay. Our only real complaint would be that we wish we could have stayed longer.
