Promoting good oral hygiene

Here are some simple things that you can do to promote good oral hygiene and a healthy set of teeth for your children.

Dental checkups

Your child should start visiting the dentist every six months after the appearance of your child’s first primary teeth. You should also get orthodontic advice regarding the use of braces.

Drinking from bottles

Your baby or young child should avoid keeping their bottle pacifier in their mouth once they have finish drinking any sweetened milk. In addition, your baby’s tongue and teeth should be wiped after feeding.

Proper brushing of teeth

Teach your child to brush their teeth correctly. You will have to do it for them whilst they are still learning but remember to supervise thereafter.

Keep a positive attitude about oral hygiene and brushing of teeth. You could buy your child a toothbrush with their favourite cartoon character for example. Remember to buy a good quality toothbrush and toothpaste at the same time.
