South Africa is slowly catching up to the overseas market in terms of gluten and dairy free alternatives. More and more, restaurants are starting to offer these alternative as well, making it far easier to eat out if you suffer from any intolerances, or if you simply choose to avoid these common allergens.
I’ve known about Almond Breeze for many years and was excited when I heard it was launching in South Africa. I had the opportunity to sample the two flavours on the market: Original and Unsweetened (sadly Chocolate isn’t around yet, but hopefully it will be soon).
I far preferred the taste of Almond Breeze Original to any of the other non-dairy alternatives I’ve tried before. It has a slightly sweet, natural and neutral taste that I found worked well with coffee, tea, cereal and more. I also found it to be a great addition to my morning smoothie – usually I add water but this made it far creamier.
I definitely preferred Original to Unsweetened, but the latter is perfect for those who are looking to avoid sugar. I tend to consider myself a bit of sugar junkie.
