The event was organised by Catch Me If You Can (CMIYC), an all-women running group based in Cape Town.

According to the event’s Facebook page, close on 3 000 runners participated in the event.

Participants paid tribute to teenager Franziska Blöchliger, who was murdered in Tokai Forest recently, as well as victims of similar recent crimes against women.

Leni Ullrich, Brand Manager for CMIYC, said in a post on the club’s Facebook page, “Many of us came with our own tragedies at heart and through the power of standing united we started the healing. We all left with love and hope. Thank you for turning a negative into a positive picture.”
