According to the Sowetan, the singer and actress has revealed that she stepped down as host of Our Perfect Wedding after season three because her son was very ill with cancer

Phumeza is married with two children, a girl and a boy. Her son was ill for the whole of 2015, and she spent the year caring for him.

However, he has been in remission since October last year.

Speaking to the Sowetan about this difficult time in her life, she said: “If you were never in a situation, it is hard to relate to another person who is going through it. In the past, I always heard about breast cancer and other illnesses but [only] once it happens to you, it’s a totally different thing.

“It taught me to not exclude myself from other people’s situations because whatever they are going through at that moment is hectic. It made me more sympathetic as a person and to pay attention to people who are going through things and humble myself in life.”

Meanwhile, Phumeza will be back on SA small screens very soon, as part of the cast for new drama, The Heist.

She plays the wife of a thief in the show, which was inspired by the heist at the FNB Stadium after pop singer Justin Bieber’s 2013 concert in Johannesburg.
