What you’ll need for your DIY herbal face scrub

  • 1 cup of rolled oats
  • Six tablespoons of maize meal
  • Six tablespoons of dried herbs of your choice
  • A blender

Choosing the right herbs for your scrub

Lavender helps to soothe your skin – making it great for sensitive skin. It’s also excellent for anti-aging. Basil is a great choice for acne-prone skin due to its antibacterial properties. Rosemary is perfect for oily skin as it has astringent properties. For a more even complexion consider chamomile or elderflower which whiten skin. Sage is the perfect herb to refine your pores for a more even complexion. Remember you can use a combination of these herbs based on your requirements.

Making and using your DIY herbal face scrub

Add the oats, maize meal and herbs to the blender and pulse to a fine powder. This will make enough scrub to use for a few months. Store the powder in a tightly-closed container and use as needed.

To use simply place some of the mixture in your palm and add a little water to make a paste. Apply the paste evenly to your skin and massage gently over your face in circular motions for a few minutes. Rinse off with warm water.
