A 19-year-old man has been sentenced to 14 years imprisonment for, among other crimes, the rape of his 73-year-old grandmother, Free State police said on Tuesday …
“On November 6 2015, the 19-year-old [man[ was found guilty as charged with housebreaking and rape,” said Free State police spokesperson Stephen Thakeng.
“He was recently sentenced in the Welkom Regional Court to four years for housebreaking and 10 years for rape.”
The rapist was sentenced on Friday November 20, roughly five months after the attack and less than a week before South Africans commemorate 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children.
He was sentenced to a total of 14 years imprisonment with 10 years for rape and four years for housebreaking.

The elderly victim awoke to her grandson raping her. After he raped his grandmother, the rapist asked her for money and cigarettes, to which she obliged.
Thakeng said that prior to the arrest, the rapist instructed his grandmother to remain quiet about the attack. He threatened her saying that if she said anything he would kill her.
