- The smell of paint can begin to make you feel nauseous, especially if you are using oil based paint. Stir two teaspoons of vanilla extract into the tin.
- Think ahead! Wear a shower cap so that your hair will not suffer any mishap.
- Removing old wallpaper is really easy if you do this: Mix equal parts vinegar and hot water. Pour this into a clean paint roller tray. Roll the solution over the paper. Maybe you will need to do it a couple of times but it should peel off easily. You don’t have to use a roller and a tray. An ordinary brush and dish will be just as effective.
- If you need to time yourself while painting, like you must fetch the children from school or some other commitment, wear a watch and cover it with Sellotape. Silly little tip, maybe, but you really don’t want a big splodge of paint clogging up your time piece!
- Keeping paint off glass is easy. Wet strips of newspaper and stick them down the edges. They are much easier to remove than masking tape.
- Before you paint a ceiling, cover your fans or hanging lights with plastic packets secured with rubber bands.
- For tiny little patch up places, use cotton buds instead of a brush.
- Always remember to record the number, make and colour of the paint you have used so you won’t battle if or when you want more.
