• Mascara. When your mascara is not flowing as well as it should, do NOT be tempted to pump the wand in the tube. That just brings in air and dries up the mascara more. Rather twist and turn against the sides and you will find some left that way.
  • Baby oil is your next trick for the mascara! Pop a few drops of oil onto the wand, smooth it over the bristles and you will extract the last remains from the tube. Any mascara over six months old should really be replaced.
  • Lipstick really hates hot weather. The tips often get so soft and greasy that they are practically unusable. Clumps can also bend and break. Before this all happens, put your lipsticks in the fridge. Don’t freeze them. That could make them brittle. Keep them in the fridge for the whole hot season and just take when you need them, and then return (like library books!).
  • Lip gloss. While you are at the fridge, after you have applied lip gloss, which is inclined to have little staying power, get a lump of ice and run it over the gloss on your lips. That makes a good setting lotion and you won’t need to apply so often.
  • Brow brush. Your old dried up mascara brushes (wands) make great eyebrow brushes.
