Pistorius was expected to be released into correctional supervision on Friday, after serving 10 months of a five-year prison sentence.
He was sentenced to jail for killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on February 14, 2013.
However, on Wednesday, Justice Minister Michael Masutha decided to suspend the Paralympian’s parole.
Masutha intervened because the decision to release Pistorius on correctional supervision on Friday was taken before he had served one sixth of his sentence, according to a statement from his ministry.
He referred the decision back to the Correctional Supervision and Parole Review Board.
