The National Prosecuting Authority has confirmed that it is ready for the trial of alleged wife killer Christopher Panayiotou which begins on August 13.

On July 28, Panayiotou’s bail appeal was dismissed by the Grahamstown High Court and he has remained in custody since his arrest.

Jayde’s sister, Toni Inggs, and her mother Michelle Inggs, burst into tears and hugged one another and had to be comforted by Jayde’s father, Derek when they heard that bail had been denied by Magistrate Abigail Beaton.

“I am very pleased with the judgment. We could not have asked for better,” Toni Inggs said.

“My heart is still broken, but this is one step in the right direction. Thank you to everyone that have supported us.”

Jayde met Christopher Panayiotou almost 10 years ago. The two eventually married two years ago.

When news of Jayde’s disappearance surfaced, hundreds of Port Elizabeth residents searched for her through the night.

She was a teacher at Riebeeck Park Girls high school in Uitenhage – her alma mata. Jayde taught grades 4-7 at the school. A memorial service at the school attracted hundreds of parents, friends and relatives including Panayiotou’s sister Kloe who teaches at the same school.

Jayde’s family have been left devastated by her death. Placards outside Panayiotou’s earlier court appearance simply read : Justice for Jayde

2. CHRISTOPHER PANAYIOTOU -The alleged mastermind

The State is arguing that Panayiotou was involved in an extramarital affair with Chanelle Coutts,an employee at the OK Grocer he has shares in at Algoa Park.

It is the State’s case that Panayiotou over-committed himself financially and was struggling to keep both his mistress and his wife happy, resulting in the plot to kill Jayde.

Panayiotou has denied this, claiming that he is worth R3 million and did not have anything to do with Jayde’s killing.
