Actress and TV presenter Boity Thulo has defended herself against the online criticism from angered hip hop fans, who have accused her of snubbing rapper AKA at the MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMAs)

Boity recently publicly revealed that she is dating rapper Cassper Nyovest, who has had a much-publicised beef with AKA, and the latter rapper’s fans were left livid by her attitude towards him on the MAMA stage on Saturday.

Boity presented the award for Best Collaboration during the event at the Durban International Convention Centre, with AKA, DA L.E.S and Burna Boy taking to the stage after being announced the winners of the category, for their track, All Eyes On Me.

And Boity waxed lyrical about her now-boyfriend while doing so…which didn’t sit well with music fans.

Before announcing the Best Collaboration winners, she said: “Cassper was not nominated. You know he wins everything he’s nominated for.”

The subsequent situation on stage was a rather awkward affair, with AKA walking straight past her and onto another stage.

Many people took to social media to attack Boity, and she was even called out for “inheriting” Cassper’s beef with the Levels rapper and for acting “unprofessional”

According to Boity, there’s no bad blood between herself and the rival rapper. When approached for comment by the Daily Sun, Boity, however, said that her words were not her own, suggesting that the award organisers perhaps created this controversy on purpose.

“All I did was say what I was told to say. I was doing my job,” she told the publication.

“Whatever is happening or has happened between Cassper and AKA has nothing to do with me.”
