It has been alleged that the former Bafana Bafana captain earns around R400 000 a month. However, speaking to KickOff, Teko said he doesn’t know where people get the idea that Premier Soccer League (PSL) players earn big money
“I think the mistake people make and don’t talk about in South Africa is that when you are still playing they think you’re getting a salary so high that when you retire you will be fine, but we’re not like your Messis who get 100 000 per game,” Teko told KickOff.
“In all fairness, you can’t live the same way you’ve been living when you were a footballer after you retire,” Teko said.
Teko added: “Things are different in SA and you must understand that most footballers in SA get to play in the PSL at 27 and they need to buy their own houses and, as black people, we need to start at home first and those are the difficulties we face and not many people talk about it.”
Previous reports have suggested that Teko has financial problems and might lose his house because of unpaid debts.
