The Myakka Pines Golf Club in Englewood, Florida, USA is surrounded by swamp lands infested with alligators, but few ever venture onto the course.

However, on 6 March last week, two senior members of the club came across a rather large obstacle on the seventh hole. A massive alligator estimated to be 12-13 feet long had decided to sunbathe on the soft putting green and didn’t seem to have any intention of moving.

The golfers did not think he would be interested in playing ‘fetch’ with a golf ball, and so they took a step back and waited for the gator to move along at his own leisure.

One of the golfers, Dick Huber, took the picture of the reptile lying on the green. The photograph and video below have since gone viral and have proven to be a great publicity boom for the Florida course.

A possible encounter with a gator could turn golfing at the Myakka Pines Golf Club into an ‘extreme’ sport.
