The sister of musician and X-Factor SA judge Zonke Dikana, is rumoured to have died after “a short illness”, with details surrounding her death still unclear

Sony Music released a statement as the singer was signed under the label.

“It is with deep sadness that we announce the unexpected and tragic loss of soul songstress Lulu Dikana who passed away last night [Wednesday] after a short illness while being treated in hospital,” Sound African recordings said in a statement on behalf of her family.

“Our deepest condolences go out to her family, friends and all her fans who came to know and love her through her music.”

Lulu had recently released her third album, I Came To Love, and she opened for Grammy-award winning singer John Legend on the Johannesburg leg of his All of Me tour recently.

Tributes have been pouring in on social media, with fans expressing their shock from the sudden passing of Lulu, the rising star

A fan tweeted: “Sad to wake up to the news of #LuluDikana’s passing. Very sad indeed. These are people we can bravely say SA is poorer without them. RIP.”

“Waking up to the sad news that #LuluDikana is no more. My thoughts & prayers are with @ZonkeMusic and the family. May her soul rest in peace,” tweeted another fan.

Funeral details would be made available as soon as they had been finalised.
