For the woman tasked with keeping Team Vitality running and cycling clubs motivated and moving more, active gear is essential – from the best buffs to footwear that can give her the edge, paired with the latest fitness tech. Here are Khethiwe’s favourites:

“Being the Team Vitality Club Manager is absolutely rewarding because our community is so dedicated to participating in our running and cycling events, virtually or safely in person,” says Khethiwe.

Even with the pandemic shifting the fitness landscape so much, having the right gear remains as important as ever, she says. “I know good gear can come at a steep cost  – for me new gear is a treat. But like all Vitality members, I get huge discounts on my gear from Vitality Active Gear benefit which easily kits me out for the year,” she says.

We asked Khethiwe:

  • What are your favourite running shoes at the moment?

“Without a doubt, the Nike ZoomX Vaporfly NEXT%. I feel faster when I wear them. The shoe includes Nike ZoomX foam and VaporWeave material which makes them light but efficient. They’re also beautiful to look at.”

  • What fitness device do you use?

“A Garmin Vivoactive 3. It great because it’s got a GPS, it links to Strava and the Discovery app. After a run or ride, my activity and map appear on my Strava profile. The best part is that I do not have to run or ride with a cellphone.”

  • What Indoor equipment are you using?

“A Giant Cyclotron Magnetic Indoor Trainer. Midweek, my Trek road bike is transformed into a stationary bike via the indoor trainer, which I got especially for the Team Vitality Indoor Cycling rides. I’m really enjoying it!

If you didn’t know, Zwift is a multiplayer, online cycling and running training program that enables users to interact, train and compete in a virtual world. It was such a treat to cycle in London and Paris, virtually. But most Saturday mornings, my bike is on the road at the Cradle of Humankind for Team Vitality club rides.

To keep you going during the cold winter months, indoor training also provides a great solution to stay fit and active. Even more so, it offers the convenience of training at your own time from your home.”

She adds: “The digitisation of fitness has me hooked. In fact, my son, who is a PlayStation fanatic who I’m always nagging to take a screen break, had to get me off my bike when I discovered Zwift.”
