SASSA has officially released payment dates for May’s social grants.

The R350 social grant that was established to help people during the pandemic is not part of next month’s payouts.

The grant has had two extensions already, but 30 April has now been identified as the official date of expiry – with no further extensions.

According to Social Development minister Lindiwe Zulu, despite the financial issues currently facing the country, some form of universal income is long overdue.

“This is not the time for us to play politics around this issue, because this is an issue that should enable us to respond to the needs of the people of South Africa,” she said.

Claimants can still collect their final April payment after 30 April.
