Plus size model and influencer, Thickleeyonce, has shared an empowering body positivity post.

The photographer, who is a body positive activist, recently reminded her fans that real beauty lies in being real.

Thickleeyonce posted a series of filtered and unfiltered images of herself on her Instagram page.

“I’ve been sharing my photographs on Instagram for 10 years and so much has changed over the years…from sharing candid, fun pics to having to curate “professional” content which in the past was mostly more common for magazines, or billboards but now professionally captured and retouched images have become “regular” Instagram posts which has arguably created worse relationships with our physical appearance,” said part of her caption to the post.

She went on to talk about the impact of photo retouching and how it has played a major role in body image issues.

Thickleeyonce said these filters and photo editing apps can be damaging when they are used to distort the way that we look. She continued to say that this can lead to an obsessive search for the unobtainable ‘perfect’ shot.

The influencer opened up about her self-love journey and what she has learned.

“In my self-love journey, I’ve learned that it’s important for my self portraits to always be a reflection of the girl in the mirror. We don’t all have to have the same hourglass bodies or extra smooth skin,” she said.

She also stressed the importance of normalising seeing all our different kinds of imperfections like stretch marks and discolouration.

“Let’s normalise seeing skin textures on photographs. Stretch marks are normal. Cellulite is normal. Discolouration is normal. Hip dips are normal. You are normal. You are beautiful.”
