The best parking in Rosebank

The thing about a night out in Johannesburg is you either have to be a skilled parallel parker or get picked up and dropped off. 

A good restaurant with great parking is a lucky find. Sotto Sopra is on Keyes avenue, is a fashionable art precinct, with the Keyes art mile and several other restaurants. 

But what makes Keyes avenue truly unique and a great place to be in the parking lot, perfectly situated in stiletto walking distance of Sotto Sopra.

Fine dining for real people 

Whenever an invitation mentions fine dining; my first instinct is to decline the invitation. It just isn’t my scene; all the effort it would take to get ready, not being able to go there straight from work. 

A quick look through Sotto Sopras Instagram page allayed my fears and I arrived confidently in a casual dress and ready to eat. What I wasn’t ready for was the generous portions sizes beautifully plated on gorgeous crockery.

Something for everyone

I am a bit of a picky eater and have left half-eaten plates of food on many a restaurant table in my day. While I couldn’t finish my food at Sotto Sopra, it wasn’t for the lack of trying. 

I don’t usually eat seafood for pleasure. It’s mostly for nutrition, but every bite from the Fritto Misto de mare ( a medley of fried seafood lightly coated in semolina) called me to eat even more. 

As far as starters go, this one has to be one of my all-time favourites!

We also had Roasted red pepper, basil pesto, mozzarella and olives on bruschetta, which was exactly the sort of comfort, no-fuss food I expected it to be.

So much more I wish I had eaten!

My biggest regret from my visit to Sotto Sopra is all the food I left behind!

After the delicious starter, I had promised I wouldn’t eat too much of, but couldn’t help it. I had a slice or two of delicious wild mushroom pizza, on a perfectly thin crust I was done.

After a night of delicious Italian food, I would have loved to indulge in an authentic tiramisu, Valrhona chocolate fondant or even a panna cotta, but I was stuffed. Next time we’re getting dessert first.
