Legendary news anchor Noxolo Grootboom read the news for the last time on Tuesday night.

Grootboom announced her retirement last week after being in the industry for 37 years.

She is known and loved for her famous last line, ‘Ndinithanda nonke emakhaya’ and she got emotional when she said goodbye to viewers during her last broadcast.

Talking to eNCA, Grootboom spoke about her last bulletin and how she felt when she did it.

“It was the toughest bulletin I have ever done. I was somehow wondering whether I have made the right decision or not. It felt like a mother abandoning her own child…not just anywhere, but in a dustbin and it filled me with so much guilt,” she said in the interview.

With today being April Fools, eNCA shared a tweet about Grootboom joining the channel.

“Veteran news anchor, Noxolo Grootboom is joining eNCA. The anchor, who retired from the public broadcaster after 37 years, will form part of our new anchor line-up. Grootboom delivered her final broadcast on the SABC’s isiXhosa news on Tuesday night,” eNCA captioned a post on Twitter.

In another post eNCA revealed that Grootboom will not be joining them because it was all a prank.

Here are some reactions from tweeps.

After Grootboom’s last bulletin, Rasta has revealed a painting of her.

“After 37 years of excellent service, We thank you for your talent Mama. Nilale nombethe ingubo yoxolo nothando,” Rasta captioned images of Grootboom and the painting.

Most Twitter users were not impressed and slammed Rasta for being so ‘disrespectful.’
