South African’s are preparing to mourn another classic food. Simba announced they would be discontinuing one of their principal flavours later this year to make room for new exciting flavours

The chip makers said chip lovers would use their buying power to vote to keep their favourite flavour. Tomato, salt and vinegar, and cheese and onion are all the chopping block.

Could it be the end for Salt and Vinegar lovers?

Pepsico, the mother company that makes both Simba Chips and Lays had salt and vinegar fans up in arms when they discontinued Lays salt and vinegar flavour.

Last year South African’s launched a petition to try and get salt and vinegar lays back on the shelves. At the time Pepsico said South Africans preferred spicier flavours over the tangy crisps.

Save your fave

This time Pepsico has decided to consult with their customers about which flavour to discontinue. Chips fans are being encouraged to put their money where their mouths are and buy the flavour they want to save.

As part of their love it or lose it campaign Simba will also reveal platforms for the public to vote for their favourite flavour before it disappears from the shelves forever.

Making way for new flavours

Not short of ideas, Simba launched proudly South African Chakalaka and Shisanyama flavours and have plenty of ideas shared by South Africans on what chip flavours they would like to eat from their ‘Mmmzansi flavour’ campaign.

Although we aren’t sure we are ready to let go of even of the three flavours that are the taste of break time during school or the snack bowl at Christmas, we are excited to see what Simba comes up with next.
