There are many reasons your teeth could be stained, from food to drink and the more serious decay, your daily activities and oral hygiene routine could be leaving your teeth stained and discoloured
While whitening your teeth can sometimes be as easy as changing your toothpaste, cleaning the space between your teeth can take more than just regular brushing.
Many people who skip out on flossing are left with dark staining between their teeth and possibly tooth decay that could cost them their teeth. Here’s what to do about dark, stained, and possibly decaying between your teeth.
Deep clean your teeth
Baking soda is a great cleaning tool around your home and even in your toiletry bag.
If your teeth are stained and have not started to decay, you can use baking soda to whiten them. A baking soda and water paste can get between your teeth better than toothpaste and gently remove stains through weekly usage.
According to West Lakes dentistry, this method works well with food and drink stains, but may not be effective with staining caused by decay.
Flossing is one of the best ways to get rid of plaque and food particles between your teeth. Medicated floss brings the cleaning and germ-killing function of toothpaste directly to the spaces between your teeth where your toothbrush might not reach.
Whitening floss has a whitening formula and, in the same way, applies it directly to those areas you may not be reaching with tooth brushing.
Flossing also removes plaque before tartar develops, which is almost impossible to remove with a dentists intervention.
Colgate says, tartar commonly builds between the teeth and along the gum line where is food particles can remain if you do not brush your teeth regularly. This is also often where tooth decay begins.
Direct your tooth whitening masks
While tooth whitening strips may be a great way to whiten the surface of your teeth, they do not reach the area between your teeth. This could further exaggerate the difference in colour between the front of your teeth and the areas between the teeth.
Tooth whitening masks can be spread over your teeth and between the teeth as well where they whiten over time.
Using a dental pick to focus the whitening to the area between the teeth can help reduce the contrast and make staining between your teeth less obvious over time.
