Piers Morgan has praised Sharon Osbourne for being “true to herself” and slammed his “fake friends” after his ‘Good Morning Britain’ exit.

The outspoken host – who quit the ITV show earlier this week following his controversial comments about the Duchess of Sussex – has thanked Sharon for her support and hit out those people who have “run away” from him amid the controversy.

In response to a supportive message from Sharon, Piers wrote on Twitter: “When stuff like this happens, true friends run towards you, fake friends run away. I love Sharon Osbourne because she always stays true to herself.

“She knew she would get abused by the woke brigade for tweeting this – but did it anyway because it what she believes. (sic)”

Sharon, 68, previously voiced her support for Piers on the micro-blogging platform.

She wrote: “. @piersmorgan I am with you. I stand by you.  People forget that you’re paid for your opinion and that you’re just speaking your truth. (sic)”

Sharon has also been supportive of Piers on US TV, passionately defending her showbiz pal on ‘The Talk’ and rubbishing the suggestion that he’s a racist.

Speaking about his attitude towards the duchess, Sharon said: “If Piers doesn’t like someone and they happen to be black, does that make him a racist? So why can’t it be he just doesn’t like her?”

Following his departure from ‘Good Morning Britain’, Piers insisted he still stands by his criticism of the duchess and her tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey.

He wrote on Twitter: “On Monday, I said I didn’t believe Meghan Markle in her Oprah interview. I’ve had time to reflect on this opinion, and I still don’t. If you did, OK. Freedom of speech is a hill I’m happy to die on. Thanks for all the love, and hate. I’m off to spend more time with my opinions.”
