Businesswoman, socialite and TV star Shauwn Mkhize has joined the cast of SABC 1 soapie Uzalo…

The Kwa Mam’Mkhize star – who is mom to Andile and Sbahle Mpisane – was announced as the newest member of the weekday show, which will mark her first ever acting gig.

“My week has started off on a high note with news that I will be featuring on @Uzalo_sabc1 S7. I can’t wait for you guys to see the episodes,” Shauwn revealed on her Instagram page.

The Durban star will feature on the season seven kick-off of the series, set to air on Friday, 5 March at 8.30pm.

But despite Shauwn’s enthusiasm and the promise of a fresh new storyline, her appointment on the soapie has seen a slew of shady comments from tweeps

“Can we please not disrespect the arts” posted one viewer in response to a tweet announcing the news by entertainment journo Phil Mphela.

Another added; “Welcome to Mzansi where everything is possible when you have money”, whilst a third added; “With all the money, we are still hungry for fame”.

But despite the criticism, a number of fans urged the soapie’s viewers to give the star a chance…

Last year Shauwn’s Mzansi Magic show Kwa Mam’Mkhize won the ‘Best Reality Show’ at the Hollywood African Prestigious Awards.

The star also walked away with the title of ‘Honorary Woman Of The Year’ award at the same ceremony.
