Childhood sweethearts recently received the most devastating news of their lives. 25-year-old groom-to-be Zach Stockford was diagnosed with terminal cancer just an hour after testing positive for Covid-19.
The diagnosis has been a huge blow to a family who has barely been able to keep their head above water amidst the pandemic. According to Wales Online Zach Stockford was experiencing some pain in his abdominal side, and after several incorrect diagnosis he finally got a CT scan which revealed an aggressive bowel cancer. Tragically it has already spread to his liver.
Shocked at the revelation, Stockford and his fiancée Katie Davies immediately started planning their wedding on a very tight budget. According to the Mirror, Stockford is the sole provider for his family currently. Davies lost her job last year due to the pandemic.
A friend of the couple, Lowri, set up a GoFundMe page to help raise money for the wedding
“Life for this dedicated young couple in their twenties has been much the same as many young people, caring for their four year old daughter, meeting work commitments and planning to get married once they have saved enough money. This week they were faced with the devastating news that Zach has an aggressive form of bowel cancer which has also affected his liver. The medical opinion is that a cure is unlikely,’’ reads the page.
They have since managed to raise over £7,290 (Over R150 000) of the £3000 target.
Lowri also described how the couple only wanted a small affair at the registry office but these donations will go a long way in helping the family overcome some of their financial difficulty.
The pair have known each other since they were children, got engaged in March 2020 and were hoping to get married in Manor Park Country House, Swansea.
Last year, Stockford shared a photo with his four year old stepdaughter, visibly in love.
