On Monday morning, the De Lille family released a statement confirming the death of Patricia’s husband, Mr Edwin De Lille…

According to the family, he passed away on Sunday evening, 7 February 2021 after a long illness.

The couple had been married for 49 years and share a son, Alistair de Lille.

Describing their lifelong partnership, Minister de Lille said: “Our marriage was built on respect. Eddie was a true partner in the sense of the word and never stopped me from following my convictions. There was respect and support until his final days and I will miss him dearly.”

The minister says her husband supported her throughout her political career and gave her the freedom to “fully pursue her work in serving the country”.

Eight years ago, Edwin de Lille suffered a stroke while driving. His life was saved by officials who pulled him over.  At the time, Patricia thanked the officers who pulled her husband over and arrested him. “I think that is what saved his life,” she told EWN at the time.

Pursuit of GOOD

De Lille is the founder of GOOD – a South African political party that was formed in December 2018.

“We stand up for a country that has zero tolerance for racism, gender discrimination, corruption and poverty. GOOD is not afraid to tackle these issues honestly, and head on. The GOOD party is led by GOOD people, fighting to create a GOOD life for every GOOD South African.”
