After separating from her husband two years ago, Claudia has had to figure things out as a single mom of twins. Contracting Covid-19 did not make it any easier.
The gorgeous former Beauty Queen Claudia Henkel recently celebrated the third birthday of her pigeon pair. The twins turned three last week, and there was a lot to celebrate and be grateful for.
There has been a lot of adjustment for Claudia and the twins. Two years ago, she divorced the father of her children – a decision says she wished she would have made sooner. Single parenting within a marriage is a reality a lot of families are confronted with. After a breakdown of the marriage and Claudia’s need to raise her twins in a healthy environment, she finally got divorced.
Claudia took a single parenting role and has not regretted it since.
She described the divorce as “the best decision I have ever taken.”
After separating, her ex-husband has been more involved than ever.
Just as she was finding her feet and settling into a new job and home, she was diagnosed with COVID-19

“I had every symptom you can think of,” Claudia shares. From the terrible headache, loss of taste and smell, fatigue, and unusual skin irritations. For ten days straight, she quarantined from her twins in fear of infecting them. Luckily for her, her little sister Nicola Henkel was the support structure she needed to keep standing during this time.
“Nicola is the twin’s second mom,” Claudia shares and expresses gratitude to her sister for taking care, not only of her but the twins as well.
Day 11 of quarantine was Christmas, and she managed to see her “apprehensive” twins for the first time in about two weeks. She only had an hour to see them, unfortunately. But it made a world’s difference. “It was hard hearing them cry for me but not being able to see them.”

Aunty Nicola had to keep telling them repeatedly that mommy is sick and will be fine soon
They comprehended their new reality and it took them one week to adjust to mommy outside of quarantine. “Is mommy not sick anymore?” They kept asking this as they were establishing the new rules of engagement.
Sadly, Nicola also contracted the virus after she came out of isolation, and it was Claudia’s turn to do the caring.
Her advice to moms that are forced into isolation away from their children is this:
- Rest as much as you can. Sleep for 14 to 15 hours on some days because that is what your body needs. Listen to your body.
- Take vitamins. Claudia’s choice is Vitamin C, B-Co, and D
- If you can, use an oximeter to check your oxygen levels. If it goes below 90, then you should seek immediate medical attention.
Mentally, do whatever makes you happy, from playing nostalgic music to telling yourself good stories about your situation. “It’s either isolation or the risk of infecting your child.” That story alone will make isolation feel like a worthwhile sacrifice.
