The jury is still out on whether Kristen Stewart will play a convincing Diana, but she definitely has the look nailed

From teenaged vampires to one of the most beloved figures of our time. Kristen Stewart is definitely a surprising choice to play princess Diana at any point in her life but creates the biopic Spencer stand by their choice saying Kirsten is just the actress to play Diana as we’ve never seen before.

The first look of Kristen as Diana may sway opinions. Kristen exudes all the grace and elegance of Princess Diana in a picture shared by the creators of the biopic Spencer.

Not another royal drama

The British royal family and all their secrets and drama have been the subjects of countless books, movies, documentaries and tv shows over the years and the recent increase in interest especially in the life of Princess Diana who died more than 20 years ago.

Not all of this has been positive, in fact, a lot of the recent depictions of Diana have sought to look past the glamour and magic of her fairytale and see the pain and torment she faced in her tenure as the Princess of Whales.

Spencer, the film in which Kristen will play Princess Diana, looks into Diana’s choice to walk away from her marriage, and rediscover herself outside the bounds of royal protocol and the gilded cage she found herself in when she married Prince Charles.

After Happily ever after

Most fairy tales end ‘happily ever after’ when the princess finds her prince. Princess Diana and Prince Charles marriage offered a different ending. While tragic, it was certainly more human and probably endured Princess Diana more to the millions of people around the world who are still very much in love with her.

Speaking to Deadline the creators and producers of Spencer explained that this alternative fairytale ending needed an actress that would give the role of Diana mystery and raw grit, this led them directly to Kristen Stewart.

“We all grew up, at least I did in my generation, reading and understanding what a fairy tale is. Usually, the prince comes and finds the princess, invites her to become his wife and eventually she becomes queen. That is the fairy tale. When someone decides not to be the queen, and says, ‘I’d rather go and be myself’. It’s a big-big decision, a fairy tale upside down. I’ve always been very surprised by that and thought it must have been very hard to do. That is the heart of the movie…We want to make a movie that goes wide, connects with a worldwide audience that is interested in such a fascinating life,” they said.
