A pair of healthcare workers who contracted the coronavirus in the UK has gone viral after they tied the knot in an ‘emergency ceremony’…
Elizabeth (Lizzie) Kerr, 31 who is a nurse, and Simon O’Brien, 36, who is an ambulance driver, were admitted to Milton Keynes University Hospital together.
But Simon’s condition quickly deteriorated. Hospital staff were worried that he would not be able to fight the virus, and staff eventually said to Lizzie, “Do you want to get married in hospital? This might be your only chance.”
She told reporters that this chilling sentence was something she never wanted to hear. But knowing that she might never see Simon again, they decided to tie the knot in hospital. Nurses organised a ward wedding within four hours, and the pair were officially married just minutes before Simon was sedated and intubated.
He spent a number of days in ICU, but thankfully his condition began to improve. The newlyweds are now recovering in hospital together, but both still require additional oxygen.
