My special place is my hometown of Port Shepstone, on the Kwa-Zulu Natal South Coast otherwise known as the Hibiscus Coast.
Port Shepstone is a sleepy town; the pace is slow with not a lot of buzz, but the environment is wholesome and very community-based and I have fond memories of growing up there. I also lived in close proximity to the beach, which I took for granted, but now that I am Johannesburg I appreciate it even more!
I remember my friends being my neighbours (so playing together at each others house after school was a given), having braais at the beach, going to the Wild Coast as a special treat, and getting involved in fun-runs and walks and charity drives.
That is why visiting my parents for holidays in Port Shepstone is always a welcome retreat from the fast-paced JHB lifestyle and I hope that someday I can return to that lifestyle and perhaps raise a family there.
