My special place is the Wilderness lakes, any one of them, as long as I can stay on the water’s edge – a tent, caravan, bungalow, a houseboat, I don’t mind. When I finally arrive there, I cannot wait for…..
1) Waking up early in the morning, before sunrise and walking along the water or sitting down with my first coffee of the morning to watch the lake. The mist drifting across the water, no ripples, perfectly still. You might see geese or ducks or flamingoes or cormorants drifting across the water. You hear and see all the birds that live on the lake and on shore. The sun starts peeking over the horizon and mist starts swirling and moving and all I can think is “thank you God, thank you for this most wonderful, gloriously perfect day”.
2) Waking up in the morning and there is no wind, it is calm and still but it is raining softly. I can walk around in the rain for hours, watch nature move around me and just marvel at Creation. I drink in the smell of fresh earth and listen to the lapping of the water at the lake’s edge – another perfect day.
3) Canoeing up the river with a picnic breakfast. In some places the trees are so dense that it almost closes off the sky – sitting drifting in the quiet, feeling special and safe.
