It’s the last tattoo we expected to see on Rachel Kolisi’s body!
But the Springboks first lady just (partly) explained the reason behind it.
This week we all got to know Rachel Kolisi just a little bit better. The guardian of four and wife to Siya Kolisi opened up like never before during an in-depth Instagram QnA session where she shared some interesting stories from her youth including how she and Siya didn’t quite hit it off immediately (did someone say Friend-Zone?) as well as the reasons why she didn’t go to university. During that same session, she shared some more interesting insights into her character when she revealed the reasons behind her new tattoo.
The backstory behind Rachel’s tat
Rachel Koliisi was an open book during her Instagram QnA session where she fielded questions relating to her family, her past and her possible future (one thing she ruled out is more kids in the future!). However, one question which flew under the radar related to a very small piece of body art on the fitness influencer’s right thigh.
It’s easy to miss, but sharp-eyed fans have often been curious about Rachel Kolisi’s leg tattoo which depicts an image of a small gun. The QnA was the perfect opportunity to find out the truth and one fan tried when they asked, “Why the gun tattoo, are you in a gang?”
To the shock of many, Rachel began by replying “Yes…” before she added “with myself!”
She went on to explain, “I won’t go into much detail maybe one day I’ll share the story. But someone hurt me and this was a reminder to protect myself”.
Other celebrities with talked-about tattoos
In South Africa, tattoos generally create talkability, especially when they’re on some of our biggest celebrities! The likes of Khanyi Mbau, Bonang and AKA have all inked up in recent months and each of their works of body art has generated a different reaction each time.
Khanyi knows how to get the country talking but even she must not have expected the reaction to her new, (slightly NSFW!) tatt. On a day when she was simply showing off a sexy body suit, others found a way to talk about the provocative positioning of her new ink.

Fans and neutrals do not always agree with rapper, AKA’s choices, and the same bode true when he decided to ink himself with Manchester United’s emblem. Yes, we know he’s a big fan but what’s going to happen when his team starts losing?

Back in 2018 Boity showed off her new ink which took up a large part of her arm and although many fans were here for it, a number of her conservative followers felt as if this was a step too far.

Which of these tattoos do you think is the most controversial?
