Babes Wodumo and Mampintsha just reminded their fans of just how far back their romance goes with this hilarious “before and after” picture.
The beginning of a new year is usually a time that inspires a number of challenges that invite social media users to show off how far they have come. From last year’s “then and now” challenge, to 2018’s decade challenge, and even the ongoing “How it started vs How it’s going” challenge. Although she wasn’t participating in an official one, Babes Wodumo set her own “Before and After” challenge when she shared images of herself and Mampintsha before the fame, and a recent one from their traditional lobola ceremony.
Babes and Mampintsha take us back in time
Before they were Babes Wodumo and Mampintsha, they were Bongekile Simelane and Mandla Maphumulo. During the early years of their romance, Babes was a talented up-and-coming musician-come-dancer, while Mampintsha was part of Durban-based trio, Big Nuz. Although we came to know more about their tumultuous romance after Babes Wodumo’s come up, this week she shared a set of images that show just how far back the lovers go.
Mampintsha’s Makoti took to Instagram to share a picture which she labelled “Before and After” and the difference between the two images was uncanny. In the former picture, Babes was still young and fresh-faced, while in the latter image the two lovers appeared to have just concluded their Lobola negotiations:
Fans were charmed by the gap in time between the two images, as one fan wrote in isiZulu “LOL you guys come from far hey?” while another one cheekily wrote, “This is the difference that money can make! Congrats you twoo!

When will Babes and Mampintsha tie the knot?
Now that the controversial lovers have wrapped up their Lobola negotiations, the next item on their bucket list is a wedding. According to most reports, Babes and Mampintsha are set tie the knot in a white wedding during some point in 2021. It appears as if details about the big day are going to remain under wraps as a result of their reality TV shoot.
The on-and-off lovers are currently shooting their long-awaited reality show, Uthando Lodumo, and part of the exclusive footage from their wedding day will be exclusively reserved for the show. The reality show is set to air on Showmax this year and Multichoice’s Channel Director of local entertainment, Nomsa Philiso previewed what we can expect when she said,
“Babes and Mampintsha’s relationship has not been a fairy tale romance. They’ve had serious issues as a couple, yet have chosen to remain together. The show focuses on how they have overcome their challenges, working through them with their families,”.
