  1. Cut two lengths of fabric measuring 1.2m x 1.8m.
  2. Place the outer side of each piece on top of each other.
  3. Fold the rectangle in half lengthways.
  4. Cut a curve into the one side of the rectangle, starting in the bottom folded corner, cutting in a gradient towards the open end.
  5. Unfold the rectangle.
  6. Sew along the two longer sides and the curve to join the two pieces of material. You should have one open end.
  7. Bring the two corners of the open end together, so the two seams you have just sewn meet.
  8. Sew the zip into this opening, making sure that the two seams are aligned to meet in the middle of the zip.
  9. Fill the beanbag as desired – the fuller it is, the firmer it will be.

Top tips

  1. You can make a smaller beanbag by reducing the measurements, but keeping the dimensions the same.
  2. Choose regrind as a filling to reduce the environmental impact of your beanbag, as it reuses existing polystyrene.
