As a somewhat closet Disney fan, I was excited to receive my tickets to Disney On Ice. I wanted to go last year, but it was around my due date so I had to give it a skip. I recruited my fellow Disney-fan sister for a night out and left my one-year-old at home.

We arrived a few minutes before it started and were greeted with stands of Disney merchandise and treats. Not a good idea for us! I could feel my wallet hurting a little.  A word of warning parents – be prepared for the prices of things. I saw a few dads muttering and fuming under their breaths while buying some snacks and drinks. Remember, you’re buying a brand, so it will be costly.

I was worried that two grown women watching Disney on Ice would look strange and out of place and that the show would cater only for children. However, I was pleasantly surprised at how beautifully presented it was. The costumes were mesmerising as the skaters made their fancy footwork look easy. I thought I was watching Olympic ice-skaters! Parents, I guarantee you won’t be bored.

With fan favourites such as the The Lion King and Frozen being acted out, I loved how the children around us reacted to their favourite characters. The awe and pure joy on the kids’ faces was priceless. I kept thinking how I’d love to bring my baby when she’s older. We couldn’t help but sing along to the Disney favourites we grew up watching.

My next tip for parents is to put away your cellphones! Some parents were so busy filming the show that they weren’t enjoying the moment with their kids.

I couldn’t help but laugh as we exited the venue as parents were giving their children reasons for not buying anymore merchandise. “Mom these cool things have to stay here hey?” and “The stuff has to stay here for the next show”. My best was a six-year-old with a loose tooth who wanted to pull it out right there so the tooth fairy would pay her a visit. Her mom had to explained how the tooth fairy didn’t know where they were and she had to wait until they got home.

So, be prepared parents for the exchange rate prices of merchandise, an impressive show, a happy child and a few Disney-branded items. This Disney fan left with an Ariel plush toy and a Finding Dory cup.
