With a little help from you, hand puppets can help your child develop some important learning skills. Play is an imaginative way for children to learn to express themselves. Children often communicate more easily through puppets, as it gives them the courage to voice their own ideas and feelings. Role-play is an especially effective activity for shy children.
This craft needs some assistance from mom to cut and fold, but little ones as young as two years can help glue and fold the puppets.
What you will need:
- Brightly coloured A4 paper
- Stick-on eyes
How to make a simple frog
- Fold your A4 paper in half, lengthways, then in half again, and then into quarters, creating a zigzag or ‘W’ with the paper. Your basic shape is now complete.
- Glue the outside edges together – this will create pockets for little fingers to fit in to hold the puppet.
- Now simply cut out some pop-out eyes and a long tongue, and glue these on. The options are endless!
