Babies differ from each other, just like adults. Some of us are morning people, while others are night owls. Some are born insomniacs; others could sleep through a thunderstorm. The same is true of babies and the only good way to build an acceptable sleep routine is to take your baby’s individual nature into account. Most parents understandably want their babies to have a predictable day and night, with more or less the same thing happening at the same time, so that they know what to expect. Indeed, parenting should be made as easy as possible, so long as it does not harm the baby.
Remember that babies are individuals and rather than following a prescribed routine (many clinics and private practitioners hand these out), build one around your child’s patterns. Observe your baby carefully in the initial days and weeks of life, as this will give you a good idea about sleep needs and other patterns.
