Nando’s has done it again by releasing another hilarious advert. This time around, they shared a festive, 2020-themed visual which sums up the year we have all had.

For most people, 2020 will be a year they hope to forget quickly. Although there have been a few highlights, it’s been a challenging and in some cases, traumatic year for many. Simply put, we can’t wait to see the end of 2020 and one brand which captured our emotions perfectly is Nando’s. The fast-food chain was able to accurately capture our emotions about this year in their latest commercial.

Nando’s nails it once again

At least 2020 hasn’t ruined Nando’s! The flame-grilled chicken brand is consistently on the money when it comes to tactical communication that reflects the times and when they decided to launch an ode to 2020 in their latest commercial, they didn’t miss once again.

The ad, called “we’ve had a real k*k time”, first flighted at the end of November and has since had South Africans rolling on the floor with laughter. It begins with Christmas carolers singing a song to the tune of the popular festive carol, Auld Lang Syne but it’s the lyrics which really grabbed our attention.

The carolers put a spin on the verse as they sang, “May 2020 be forgot and never brought to mind. May 2020 be forgot, we’ve had a real K*K time! We’ve stayed at home and lost our minds, we’ve been the furthest thing from fine, may 2020 be forgot, it’s been a real k*k time!”

Even without knowing the words, by the end of the 1-minute clip, you can’t help but sing along too (especially if your 2020 has been as dreadful as it has been for most South Africans).

How does Nando’s always get it right?

This is not the first time that Nando’s has managed to put a smile on our face (especially during dark times such as these). If there’s one South African brand that has become synonymous with punchy, catchy and witty commentary, it’s theirs.

In recent history, Nando’s has made waves across the country for being able to not only entertain with its advertisements, but also tactically work current trends into their advertising.
