Originating in Cuba, the mojito has been a firm favourite for many for years now.

This popular cocktail is enjoyed in many ways and according to your individual taste. I recently got the chance to try one of the latest mojitos at the Dros Restaurant – here is what I thought.

The Dros Restaurant is situated in the iconic and popular Gateway mall in Umhlanga. It is a favourite hangout for the Durban locals and has a drinks menu that offers classic cocktails and their very own signature cocktails.

I ordered their Wildberry Drosjito – a signature cocktail from the Dros bar. The blended cocktail was presented in a hurricane cocktail glass and the pink colour of the cocktail was bold and enticing. The price at time of writing is R65.

However, to be 100% honest, there could have been a bit more attention to detail in terms of presentation. It would have been more visually appealing if a lime wheel or fresh mint leaves were added together with the maraschino cherry.

The ingredients in the cocktail are:

  • Barcardi rum
  • Soda water
  • Smoothie wildberry mix

The liquor in the cocktail was well balanced and I could taste the Barcardi rum. The flavour of the cocktail was towards strawberry than the wildberry flavour I had expected. I did not get the “mixed berry aroma” and no raspberry, blackberry and blueberry notes that you usually get from a wildberry flavour.

It was still a tasty cocktail overall.

Adding to the experience, the restaurant ambience is relaxed and the service good quality.

My server, Zinhle was attentive, friendly and very caring. She did great a job in making me feel welcome.
