Fans and friends are mourning the loss of yet another prominent life. On Thursday morning it was reported that popular Kwaito hitmaker, Nomasonto ‘Mshoza’ Maswanganyi has passed away.
She was 37-years-old. No details on her death have been confirmed as yet, but the Daily Sun reported that she had passed away in a Johannesburg hospital on Thursday morning.
The Queen of Kwaito stayed out of the spotlight in 2020, but in 2019, she actively stood up for her fellow celebs and women in her industry.
Mshoza was well known for standing up for her fellow celebs and in March 2019, she fiercely defended defend Moonchild against people who are not impressed with her risqué outfits.
“So it’s ok for the Beyoncé’s and them to come into our democratic country ngentsula but for our own @MoonSanelly you ask so many questions?
“I am gonna posts this pic till you all tired. Veza lontsula Moonchild my girl. Entertain and educate them,” she wrote.
Battle with alcoholism
In April 2019 she opened up about her battle against alcoholism so that she could show support for her friend Zahara who revealed that she had battled alcoholism.
During an interview with TshisaLIVE, Mshoza reflected on how she turned to alcohol to deal with her problems. She said that she started drinking heavily and being reckless after the death of her close friend and kwaito star Lebo Mathosa. However, she shared her story to encourage others to seek help and overcome their addictions.
She also viewed herself as a ‘mother figure’ to Babes Wodumo and Zahara.
The talented star will be truly missed.
