Franschhoek is one of South Africa’s most sought after wedding destinations…
Here valleys of vineyards combine with beautiful mountain backdrops and historic Cape Dutch style architecture to create some of the most picturesque settings for that perfect wedding picture.
However, with top-end price tags and waiting lists that sometimes span a number of years, Franschhoek is out of the realm of possibility for many local brides, that is until now!
We recently paid a visit to Rickety Bridge and their enthusiastic team of wedding coordinators to discover why Franschhoek is the ideal option for a winelands wedding right now:
Local special offers
With Franschhoek the top choice for many international brides, it’s easy to see how prices can skyrocket and simply be unaffordable for South African locals. However, with many international travellers still not able to come to Cape Town, these foreign guest weddings are being put on hold. What this means that the summer season, which is peak wedding time, is now open for locals to book last-minute specials – a luxury that could previously see you having to wait a few years to secure your favourite date!
And what is better is that some farms have some great deals on for local couples. One thing to keep in mind however is to look out for apparent ‘cheap’ pricing which only includes venue hire.
Although certain farms, like Rickety Bridge, may look more expensive initially, their base price includes a whole host of extras such as accommodation, drinks, meals, canapes, gratuities, etc. which can add up too much more than expected if not included in the initial cost.
If you were planning to get married in 2020, you may have been disappointed like many others and had to cancel your wedding. The good news is, with the lifting of lockdown levels, your 2020 wedding dreams can still come true. While some venues may already be fully booked for weekends, the good news is that without international travellers, mid-weeks are generally much quieter.
Book a mid-week wedding and you might not even have to pay for exclusive venue hire to enjoy the place to yourselves. When we travelled to Franschhoek and Rickety Bridge mid-week we were treated like VIPs at the restaurants, enjoyed private wine tastings and had our manor house accommodation all to ourselves.
An extra treat that we didn’t even have to pay a premium for and an experience that isn’t likely to be repeated in Franschhoek any time soon.
Enjoy quality time with the family
While not far from Cape Town, hosting a wedding at a destination like Franschhoek allows you to actually escape. You get that instant feeling like you’re on vacation, allowing you to really relax and enjoy the day.
As no one will want to drive home after a night of good wine and food, you also get to enjoy a little bit of extra quality time with the family. Why not even make a weekend of it and throw a big post-wedding breakfast celebration and even a day on the wine tram after the nuptials?
With so many of us separated from family and friends for so long, we all need a little bit extra undivided attention from those we love. As your wedding goes by so quick, having a weekend extravaganza also gives you the time you need to really soak it all in and chat to every guest that attends.
Escape and feel safe
Along with spending quality time with friends and family, booking out a wine farm destination like Rickety Bridge where your accommodation is also included, will allow you to escape to a place where you can really feel safe.
We are all still worried about large social gatherings and the last thing we want is for our wedding to be the cause of illness for friends and family. That is why Franschhoek is the perfect place for your special day. You can get married and celebrate outdoors under wide open skies and rest assured at the end of the day and its only you and your party using the facilities on the day.
