US businessman and entertainment mogul 50 Cent has made it clear that he wants South African actor Vuyo Dabula to be a part of his new television drama, Black Mafia. Could “Gaddafi” be heading to Hollywood?
South African talent is in high demand and it looks as if the next actor to have caught the attention of Hollywood’s elite is Generations: The Legacy star, Vuyo Dabula. The hunky actor impressed Power’s executive producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and in a recent Instagram live, The American entertainer expressed his admiration for the man who plays the role of “Gaddafi” on Generations: The Legacy”.
An impressive CV
Vuyo Dabula is one of South Africa’s most recognisable leading men, having starred in a number of local and international productions. At home on the silver screen and the television , he’s proven time and again that there’s more to his repertoire than chiselled muscles and rugged features.
Instead, he has proven himself as a well-rounded thespian capable of pulling off a variety of roles. It’s this versatility which caught 50 Cent’s eye when the rapper-turned-television mogul set his sights on the continent to cast African talent for his series.
According to viewers who caught 50 Cent’s live session on Instagram, the Get Rich or Die Tryin’ star opened up about his upcoming project Black Mafia Family and shared some of his thoughts and plans for the upcoming production. It was during this segment that he revealed he had been scouting actors from across the continent and named Vuyo Dabula as one of his top candidates.
“Fiddy” was notably impressed by Vuyo’s ability to carry himself as a tough, street-smart gangster on Generations: The Legacy while also enjoying his roles in international productions Queen Sono and Avengers: Age Of Ultron.
Is Vuyo next for Hollywood?
If the move materialises, Vuyo Dabula would see himself become the next big local talent to crack it overseas in recent years following the successes of the likes of Phumzile Sitole (who stars in the new Star Trek from this Friday!), Pearl Thusi, Nomzamo Mbatha, Trevor Noah and Nandi Madida.
Despite his unquestionable talent and professionalism, one thing appeared to be standing in the actor’s way when it came to getting more frequent gigs back in the day. A “no kissing” clause he insisted on adding to every contract he signed. This all changed just before he signed the Generations contract however – which is probably for the better.
Do you think Vuyo Dabula would be a great addition to 50 Cent’s upcoming drama?
