During lockdown, many of us started experimenting with bread recipes, and baking our own loaves at home. We were surprised to discover how many types of bread and different baking and rising methods there are.

From naan in India to the French baguette, we take a look at 29 types of bread around the world (watch the video above).

According to information from the Lyon Bakery, the earliest known loaves of bread were baked around 8000 BC in Egypt. The bread looked more like tortillas than the soft loaves we know today.

“Throughout the world, in the following centuries, countries developed their own versions of bread. Some leavened, others not,” says the Lyon Bakery.
